Sounio Sunset and Athens by Night

We enjoy a half-day trip to Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon enriching our visit with one of the most astonishing sunsets in Greece. On the way back, we drive through the Athens Riviera and learn about all the interesting waterfront points where the locals hang out. Be like a Greek with us! Don’t miss it!

Highlights
  • Visit the Temple of Poseidon arising from the edge of Cape Sounio
  • Watch the impressive panoramic view from the south-eastern peak of Sounio against the Saronic Gulf
  • Let the breathtaking sunset travel you through the colorful canvas of the sky
  • Feel the rhythm of Athens by night on the way back from the Athens Riviera

We depart to Cape Sounio with the bus together with our friendly trip attendant-archaeologist, at 17:30 from the “Smart-Eco-Pickup” at Halandri metro station. The distance is 60km and lasts approximately 1 hour.

We reach the rocky Cape Sounio when the sun is about to immerse into the Aegean Sea. The best moment to enjoy the picturesque area of Sounio and capture its beauty is during sunset. Even Homer talks about Sounio in his epic poem Odyssey and great leaders as Menelaus of Sparta stopped at Sounio to provide honors to his fellow companions. “Holy Sounio, Cape of Athens”

We have about 1.5 hours to walk around the magnificent Temple of Poseidon, the God of the Sea and second most powerful among the Olympian Gods after Zeus. The temple is one of the most important in central Greece and second most important after the Temple of Acropolis. The ancient Greeks used to build their sacred areas in certain points measured in a way so that there was a form of triangulation among them (equilateral and isosceles triangles). This tendency was very common in ancient Greece and is known as triangulation. The Temple of Poseidon is the peak of an isosceles triangle with the Temple of Aphaeas in Aegina and the Temple of Hephaestus in Thissio.

Discover the signature on the marbles, of various famous authors who passed by the Cape of Sounio. Very characteristic is the one of the romance author Lord Byron (1810A.C) who couldn’t resist and left his marking on it. Let the romantic aspect of Sounio travel you while you watch the idyllic sunset fading into the clear blue Aegean Sea. It is one of the most remarkable sunsets in Greece.

After this unique experience, we depart to Athens discovering the Athens Riviera strolling along the waterfront cafes and the seafront promenades where all locals turn to in order to escape from city life. Immerse yourself in this de-light-ful evening experience watching some of the richest and most beautiful districts such as Varkiza, Vouliagmeni, Glyfada and Palaio Faliro.

We are back at around 22:30 at the Smart-Eco-Pickup, at Syntagma metro Station, in Syntagma Square.

Take a break from the fast-moving pace of the city! Athens dressed-up in its night lights has a different glamour – Don’t miss it! Join us and feel like being with a friend who is excited to show you around like a Greek!

Highlights
- Come to know just why Hard Rock Cafe finds itself in over 50 countries
- Step foot inside a dining experience with a difference as you set your eyes over exclusive rock memorabilia
- Choose from many menus and pick what suits your taste buds the best

Hard Rock Cafe's food items, are complimented by an extensive, award-winning drinks menu that includes Hurricanes, Margaritas, signature favourites and Alternative Rock (alcohol-free) beverages, all available in Hard Rock Souvenir glassware. All cocktails are handcrafted, just like its cuisine and as authentic as the memorabilia on the walls.

Memorabilia from Hard Rock iconic collection adorns the walls of Hard Rock Cafe Athens, including items from legendary and contemporary musicians from around the world. Fans will be able to see Lady Gaga's silver and black boots worn during a 2014 photo shoot; a black studded bass owned by American rocker, Gene Simmons; an acoustic guitar owned and signed by Chris Martin from Coldplay; and much more.

Like all great revolutions, the Hard Rock Cafe wasn’t meant to succeed. It was 1971 and as the Swinging Sixties had given way to the Super Seventies, fashions and tastes were changing. Two hungry young Americans were in London and couldn’t find a decent place to eat a decent burger… so they opened up a joint in the English capital. Their landlord didn’t think it would last and gave them just a six-month lease. Four decades later, there almost 200 Hard Rock Cafes in more than 50 countries worldwide.

The first T-shirt hit the streets in ‘74 and the first piece of memorabilia came, fittingly, by chance in ‘79 when Eric Clapton asked to hang his Lead II Fender guitar over his favourite bar stool and thus mark as his spot. Today, the rock 'n' roll collection has more than 74,000 pieces and is the largest of its kind. By 1982, the Hard Rock Cafe had gone global and the rest, as they say, is history (that’s still being written)!

Sunset Tour: Cape Sounio

Join our guided half day tour to Cape Sounion and experience a breathtaking sunset at the unique temple of Poseidon, the God of the Seas in ancient times. Our tour starts with a wonderful drive along the Athens Rivera. During this relaxing ride with your luxury air conditioned bus you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athens’ most beautiful suburbs, including Hellinikon Olympic complex, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza. Arriving at the Cape Sounion, you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands).

One of its columns has a graffiti left by none other than lord Byron in the early 1800s. Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey, as the last safe landing before Poseidon scattered the returning Greek navy. As god of the sea, Poseidon was very important for ancient Greeks, and the scale of the Temple at Cape Sounion reflects that. After visiting the Temple, filled from the beauty, the history and the culture of this site we will wait to admire one of the most amazing sunsets you could ever imagine. And when the sun begins to slowly touch the sea it is the perfect moment for a glass of wine, before returning back to your hotel.
