Buddhist Art Museum

The Museum of Buddhist Art (Nong Prue) is a living encyclopedia of Thai Buddha image art and houses more than 2,900 Buddha images and artifacts. Each artifact has its own unique details and stories before each piece became what it is today. This private exposition of artefacts was collected by just one person over a period of more than 60 years.

Professor Somkiet Lopercharat is the only person in the world who could collect such a collection, and initially it was provided only for private viewing untill advisor of the King reccomended to open museum for the public. The professor listened to the advice, but he went on and made almost impossible for any other person-he donated his entire collection (and it costs insane money) to the Art Conservation Fund, registered all the artifacts as a national treasure, and now the collection is inviolable.

Many of the exhibits presented in the museum are the only ones in the world, some of them are the subject of such an irresistible passion by the Sotheby's and Christie's auction houses that they twice came to Thailand with a request to sell some of them. But, being a national treasure, these sculptures are not subject to sale, despite the cost of more than $100 million

Nong Nooch Pattaya

In 1954, Mr Pisit and Mrs Nongnooch Tansacha bought 1,500 rai (approximately 600 acres) of rolling hills and valleys between Pattaya-Sattahip at the 163 kilometer marker on Sukhumvit road in Najomtien, Sattahip, Pattaya in Chonburi Province. The newly purchased land was anticipated to become a fruit plantation of mangoes, oranges and coconuts as well as many other local fruits.

During her trip abroad, Mrs Nongnooch was inspired by the beauty of world renowned gardens and decided to turn the fruit orchard into a tropical garden of ornamental flowers and plants. The garden was later turned into a tourist attraction fully equipped with accommodation, a swimming pool, restaurants, and banquet and seminar halls for the tourist’s convenience.

Nongnooch garden opened to the public in 1980, and added to the garden was a daily Thai cultural show and elephant show within the theater. Three years later, the garden management was handed over to her son, Mr Kampon Tansacha, and today is one of the most popular attractions of Thailand as well as a center of world botanical significant under the concept “a garden for all people of this world”. Presently, Nongnooch garden is a very popular tourist attraction with an area of over 1, 700 rai welcoming tourists from all over the world. More than 5,000 people visit each day and the garden has also been recognised as one of the top ten most beautiful gardens in the world.

It is rated highly by global websites and has received numerous honors and awards including as the following.

Alcazar Transvestite Cabaret

Teasing but tasteful transvestite cabaret at the renowned Alcazar. The Alcazar has been around since the early 1980's and it has grown from its humble beginnings, into an internationally renowned cabaret production. Perhaps the shaky start was due to the fact the female performers were all really males and the idea might have been misinterpreted. But the Alcazar is a class act, which puts on extravaganzas suitable for all members of the family and is particularly popular with Asian audiences. In recognition of this, the performers also dress in Korean, Chinese and Japanese styles and sing a song in each language, as well as performing international numbers.

Dazzling sets, colourful costumes and a state of the art light and sound system highlight the artistry of the performers - though they lip-synch to most songs. After the performance you may take photographs outside of the 'girls' in their ostentatious outfits.

Important information - Thailand Mourning Period

As you may already be aware, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, passed away on 24 October 2025. This is a heavy loss for Thailand, and the Royal Thai Government has announced official mourning practices and suggested mourning attire guideline during the mourning period which lasts for 90 days (until 24th January 2026.

Although this is not enforced for foreign visitors, this attire is highly recommended as part of the respect for the local customs and traditions. Details are: During the mourning period, foreign visitors are encouraged to wear black or subdued colors (dark grey, navy blue, brown and white) and avoid bright, flashy, or festive colors such as red, yellow, pink, or neon tones.
