Overview
This area of central London is one of the most exciting and vibrant parts of the city. It is steeped in history and includes Trafalgar square which is dedicated to Britain’s famous victory over the French and Spanish fleets at Trafalgar. You will explore this area at your own pace and your guide will discuss the history of this famous battle. Your guide will introduce you to Horatio Nelson, the British commander who died during the battle and has a towering column dedicated to him in the centre of the square. The Amba Charing Cross hotel is located around 3 minutes from here. This establishment has an interesting history and it is rumoured that Jack the Ripper even stayed here as evidence suggests he left behind a mysterious black bag which the police tried to identify him by. It also suffered from heavy German bombing during world war two which meant the whole set of top floors had to be rebuilt.
Next you will see the St-Martins-in-the-Fields, the stunning Georgian church built with a neoclassical design. You will explore the bustling hubs of Piccadilly circus and Covent garden, walking past some of the world famous theatres of the West End. Next you will walk to Buckingham Palace, the London home of the royal family and one of the most iconic sites in London. Finally, you have the option to visit the National Gallery and view the amazing selection of work on display. Or alternatively you can discuss the best sites and places to visit for the rest of your stay in London with your expert local guide.
