Have a drink on us in bars such as Pete’s Tavern, the quintessential American hideaway with its marble-topped bar and mirrored walls. Head to the Old Town Bar, a favourite spot for literary drinkers since Prohibition. It once operated as a speakeasy, dodging the strict licensing laws to deal direct with bootleggers. Toast Abe Lincoln, John Lennon, or some less savoury characters at McSorley's Old Ale House. Nowadays they’re a friendly bunch, but this was once a hangout for some rough and ready barroom brawlers. Don’t forget their golden rule: ‘Be good or be gone’! Hear wild stories of law makers, law breakers, prohibition-era gangsters and molls, and discover the weird and wonderful tale of the circus animals kept in a dive bar backroom.
