Jack the Ripper and haunted London by vintage bus

Start this hair raising tour with a journey aboard our vintage open top bus through the dark and haunted streets of London. Listen to the tales of the legends buried at Westminster Abbey and see the banqueting house where Charles I was beheaded, a relatively common punishment for crime at the time. Your expert guide will explain how the executioners, who worked regularly in front of large crowds at Tower Hill which we will also see, would often raise the severed head showing it off to the crowd and that would often continue to twitch for several seconds after the brutal blows. We then travel to the Old Bailey - the site of numerous public hangings, the Royal London Hospital where the Elephant Man lived, and hear tales of Mrs Lovett’s pie shop with her speciality fillings, the butcherous barber who lived next door and who would cut off more than just your hair; gangland warfare, great train robbers and more.

Stay close to our guide as the tour takes us to the deserted Smithfield market and the surrounding cobbled streets. You’ll see the William Wallace plaque where Braveheart was tortured, and learn of the 19th century body snatchers who dug up local cemeteries ‘in the interests of science.’ Two of the most famous snatchers, John Bishop and Thomas Williams, were hanged at Newgate prison in front of several thousand boisterous Londoners. Then listen out for the scratching sounds of Fanny Lynes, the Cock Lane ghost, and hear her true story of death, sex, loan sharking, arsenic poisoning and séances. It all took place 250 years ago and has troubled the nation ever since.

As the shadows lengthen, we approach London's East End, a hotbed of crime and vice in the 19th century. During the autumn of 1888, terror struck when Jack the Ripper came out of the fog and dimly lit alleys just long enough to stalk and butcher his five victims. At this point we leave the safety of the bus and walk his death trail inspecting the murder sites, deciphering the evidence and discussing his suspects. To this day the case remains unsolved. Come and investigate the case for yourself - who was Jack the Ripper?

Fancy a nightcap? Then join us in the warmth of the Sherlock Holmes Pub. The pub also boasts a wide collection of the investigators memorabilia. Feeling hungry? The pub also has a wide variety of meals including a traditional fish and chip supper on offer which can be purchased from the bar. The tour ends at the Sherlock Holmes pub which is situated close to Trafalgar Square.

Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath Tour

Windsor Castle
Our first stop is Windsor Castle, the ancestral home of the British Royal family for more than 900 years and the largest, continuously occupied castle in Europe. Marvel at the splendour of the State Apartments, the grandest apartments in England, where paintings by Van Dyck and Rubens hang from the walls and the ceilings are painted with elaborate, magnificent murals.
Step inside St George’s Chapel, where HRH Prince Harry married Ms Meghan Markle and the tombs of prominent previous monarchs are located, including Henry VIII and Charles I. Don’t miss a colourful display of typical British pageantry that takes place every morning at the Changing the Guard ceremony, where the handover of duties between guards to the Queen takes place. If Her Majesty is in Windsor during your visit, you may be lucky enough to see the Royal Standard flying on the flagpole of the Round Tower.

Stonehenge
Step back 5,000 years in time to prehistoric Britain as our guide helps bring the history of this fascinating monument to life. Who built Stonehenge? Why was it built? Discover the answer to these questions and the monument’s fascinating link to the Summer and Winter solstice. Come face-to-face with a 5,500-year-old man and visit the world-class exhibition centre, with 250 ancient objects on display.

Bath
Our last stop will be a tour of the historic city of Bath, originally built as a place of well-being and relaxation by the Romans when they first arrived in Britain. Home to Britain’s only natural thermal hot springs, Bath is a delightful city where the ancient meets the contemporary world. Travel through thousands of years of history in one city; marvel at its unique honey-coloured Georgian architecture, Pulteney Bridge and the Bath Abbey. Only if you have chosen the option with the Roman Baths, you will have the great opportunity to visit this ancient museum.

Important Information
In the event that the Windsor Castle is closed to visitors, enjoy a walking tour of Windsor led by an expert guide. On this tour you will be able to see the turrets and the outer walls of the castle, the long walk (used for processions) and a great shot of one of the castle courtyards from the outer gates. You will also be able to see the quaint streets, learn how this town has played such an intrinsic part in UK history and see views of where the recent Royal Wedding Procession passed by. After the walking tour you will also have some free time to wander around this beautiful market town.

Churchill War Rooms and Westminster WWII Tour

Discover all the darkest secrets of the area of Westminster, one of the most interesting parts of London.

Highlights
- Entry to the fascinating Churchill War Rooms and Museum
- Step back in time and learn all about the people behind the war effort and wartime London
- Listen to Churchill’s famous speeches

Begin by walking by some of London’s most famous sites, such as 10 Downing Street, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Visit the intriguing Cenotaph, originally a memorial for the First World War and now the UK’s main war memorial. You will even set eyes upon some iconic statues: that of Sir Winston Churchill and that of the women of WWII.

Westminster was one of the most affected areas during the bombings of WWII, and with good reason: it was home to the undercover and underground base of a complicated secret world of governments in exile, overseas forces, spies and counterspies. Here was located the bunker in which Winston Churchill and his government hid during the blitz of London. Delve into the Churchill War Museum and the war rooms to learn all about London’s darkest hour.

As you descend into the wartime bunker of the Churchill War Rooms, you will feel as if you are walking into the past. Feel as if you are reliving the terrifying moments politicians lived while they planned and plotted about the future of Europe in these claustrophobic rooms.

Here, your guide will salute you as your experience concludes with an audio guide tour of the War Rooms, preserved exactly as they were left the day the lights were switched off in 1945! Here, the thick walls teem with history. This was the nerve centre of Prime Minister Churchill’s war efforts, where he and the British cabinet planned and prepared the defeat of Hitler.

As you go deeper into the labyrinth of rooms, you’ll discover how life and work continued underground, from top-secret conversations between Churchill and President Roosevelt in the Transatlantic Telephone Room to simple domestic concerns in Churchill’s kitchen. Wander for as long as you like before making your way out in your own time.

We stop for photos and a history lesson from the guide before our cruise. (No entry into the Tower on this tour)

Next we take a boat trip on the River Thames that passes Shakespeare’s Globe, Cleopatra’s Needle and London Bridge before we arrive at Embankment pier, re-join the bus and head for Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace is the official Royal residence of Her Majesty the Queen. Watch the world famous changing of the Guard ceremony as the Queen's soldiers, dressed in their fabulous tunics and busbies march to military music.
