Tour of Vaux Le Vicomte and Fontainebleau Castles
Experience an unforgettable guided tour from Paris that immerses you in the history of two beautiful French castles: the Château de Vaux Le Vicomte which inspired the construction of the Palace of Versailles and the magnificent Château de Fontainebleau.
Depart from our agency in a luxury air-conditioned coach and reach the Château de Vaux le Vicomte after about one hour drive. Discover the refinement and architectural richness of the Vaux le Vicomte château with your guide. Admire the beautiful old stones standing impressively amid large lawns nestled in the surrounding forest. This masterpiece of modernity and elegance inspired King Louis XIV to build Versailles Palace. Nicolas Fouquet, the Sun King's minister, commissioned the best artists of the time to erect the castle in the 17th Century. After your guided visit, take a short time to discover the wonderful gardens.
Have lunch on your own in a restaurant of the castle's domain or outside beside the gardens (not included).
Get back into the coach and arrive at Fontainebleau after about one hour drive. Your afternoon will be dedicated to visiting this superb Château de Fontainebleau, the favourite residence of French kings from Francis I to Napoleon III. The Palace of Fontainebleau is known as a true jewel of Renaissance art inherited from the 16th century, surrounded by 321 acres of gardens.
Visit the château with our guide and discover this only royal and imperial castle which has been continually inhabited for seven centuries and became a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will go through numerous rooms such as: the Ballroom, the guard's room, the Throne room, the council chamber and Napoleon's apartments. Take a short time to see the gardens and be astounded by the amazing horseshoe-shaped staircase at the entrance of the castle.

Napoleon and the Invalides Army Museum
Most tourists to Paris are impressed by the 26 pounds of gold leaf that make the Invalides stand out against the skyline. But few visitors realize the multiple facets of our society on display within. Originally constructed under Louis XIV, the dome contains the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. The vast complex surrounding the cathedral is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the many chapters of French military history, including the jousting of medieval knights, the Emperor’s European conquests, and the World Wars of the 20th century. Our guided visit of the site lasts 2.5 hours, and features meaningful stories not only about the French but also about the many nations that have come to fight on French soil. Of particular interest are the exhibits about the D-Day Landings in Normandy and the Liberation of Paris in 1944.
As you might guess from its name, the Invalides was constructed in the 17th century to provide a retirement home and care center for the thousands of soldiers wounded and maimed fighting for their country under the Old Regime. Commissioned by the Sun King Louis XIV and designed by Hardouin Mansart (famous architect of the Hall of Mirrors), the Invalides was the world’s first veterans home on such a large scale. In addition to the museum, tombs, and military ceremonies that keep the site relevant today, its original vocation is still respected and a number of disabled soldiers are currently lodged in this 300-year-old barracks. The Invalides Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the French Armies.
Your expert guide will take you on a historical journey. You’ll get into the military theme as you admire the decorated armor and cannon the XVIIth century. Hear of the exploits of General Bonaparte and learn how he became Emperor Napoleon. During La Resistance under German occupation in the 1940s, two British pilots were hidden in this very structure! Charles de Gaulle kept up French morale while directing the Free French Forces, and D-Day was a success thanks to our allies.
After the museum, you’ll enter the church to discover tomb of the most famous military leader in European history. After taking the imperial crown for himself in 1804, Napoleon continued his program of European conquest right up to his ultimate defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon died in exile in 1821, but his remains were returned to France in 1840 and entombed according to his wishes in the heart of his capital. Napoleon’s son, nicknamed the Eaglet, also died on foreign soil; his body was re-interred here by Hitler in 1940.
Join us on this thrilling voyage through conflict, disaster, heroism and united victory.

Impressionist Treasures at the Musée d’Orsay - Including Gourmet Lunch
The famous Orsay Museum houses the world’s most complete collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. You won’t want to miss the famous masterpieces by Manet, Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh, to name a few. Your local guide will accompany you on a two-hour tour through this tumultuous period in French culture, within one of the most beautiful museum facilities in the world. Following your tour, you’ll sit down to a lovely lunch in the Orsay’s classy restaurant.
A visitor will quickly understand why the Musée d’Orsay is consistently ranked the favorite museum of Parisians themselves. Built over 100 years ago as a train station welcoming international visitors to the World’s Fair, the beaux-arts structure now displays the best art from that period, making it an essential visit during your stay in the City of Light. Your expert guide, fully accredited and eager to open your eyes to artistic passion, will meet you right in front of the museum, and your group will bypass any long lines to enter immediately.
Believe it or not, the Impressionists’ peaceful scenes of rural and city life were thought absolutely shocking when they were painted! The vivid colors and expressive brushstrokes truly shook the foundations of the artistic establishment. Your guide will bring to life the turbulent personalities of the painters, describing how each artist dared to explore new territory and to pursue success without compromise. Traveling back in time, you’ll learn how these images and messages changed the art world forever. You may be familiar with some of the masterpieces on display, such as Monet’s Water Lilies or Van Gogh’s Starry Night; this will be an opportunity to examine up close the startling blend of colors that go into seemingly calm compositions. Your guide will point out all the highlights, and conclude by leading you to the spectacular restaurant.
Here you’ll enjoy a glass of fine French champagne, followed by a delicious lunch with wine in the Orsay station’s original Belle Epoque restaurant, opened in 1900 and classified as a historic monument in its own right. Savoring the traditional French cuisine under the sparkling chandeliers will be a most fitting finale of your memorable tour. After lunch, your entrance ticket allows you to return to the galleries on your own if you wish, to further explore the collection or perhaps take in a special exhibition.
